The Open-Raman spectrometer is an open design, open source spectrometer made from off the shelf components and 3d printed modules. It's open design means it can be modified and further developed for any use case you come up with.
It was designed by an optics PhD from Belgium with a focus on getting very good results from a low cost system. The current system is designed for use with a 532nm laser which was chosen for ease of obtaining parts, safety, and is the region of highest response from the camera sensor.

Configurations
The unit comes in a "standard edition" which has a low-power, broad-wavelength 4.5mw laser and a 50um slit. This is good enough to see raman spectra and for some basic tasks.
The second configuration is the "performance edition" which has a high power, ultra narrow wavelength 100mw laser paired with a smaller 30um laser. This setup provides much higher resolution images and is able to sense material at a much lower concentration.
Vendors
For the 3D printing, hubs.com is used which provides very high quality parts, x-rayed to ensure the parts are exact. The design in this pre-build has teach component marked. By special request I can produce use the blank design instead.
For performance edition, Civil Laser is used which provides a very high quality laser at a reasonable cost.
Lenses are from Thor Labs.
Camera is from FLIR.
Other parts (screws, bulbs, glue) are from various vendors.
